Felting a full fleece freshly shorn from the sheep is an excellent way of making a stunning rug from wool. In Argyll there are many hardy sheep breeds of small sturdy animals which are well adapted to the windy and wet climate. There wool made not always be super soft but we can always say they are super warm.
So why felt the fleece?
The animal is shorn yearly and this wool can have a wooly false skin felted into the fleece to allow it to compact together- they are machine washable. We not only make and sell local breeds such as Shetland , Hebridean, Jacob and North Ronaldsay but we also teach the skill to others.
We have an ever changing range of felted fleeces ( and we also sell raw fleeces ) Here are some pictures of what they are like – each one different. If you like to email us to see what stock we have , we can send photos and post out to you . Prices average about £40-£50
