Teaching has always been a part of my felt making  work
From nursery aged children to advanced higher art students and textile degree student.
Then the community education side of my work has taken me all over the world with and with out the Scottish Story telling yurt. I have enjoyed learning about the new places i have lived in , through community work .

Dyeing at Dalmally

The move to Argyll 3 years ago has been no different.

What a lot we have achieved with the station and the studio space to create a warm welcoming place for people to spend time in.

It is in a perfect position- easy to get to by public transport and well positioned between Glasgow and Oban , the surprise is the  tranquil beauty of the place , people who attend workshops here have returned time and time again.

The walls ooze history from the red sandstone and grey granite mix. Stones with the tool marks still visible of the long gone craftsmen who built the station well over 100 years ago . Its a happy building with a welcome for all who pass through or choose to stay awhile.

The workshops are really popular and i love teaching , its physical work often with much preparation weeks in advance to ensure the materials , colours and samples are ready for the students coming through those door – keen to learn . I am a sower of seeds , a flicker of fibre switches in the conscious and unconscious minds of those who work here and it delights me how my students have grown from strength to strength with the self confidence creativity has given them .

Numbers are limited for each workshop which allows full engagement and attention to each students needs .

Private group bookings are often made for specific subjects such as teachers who may need to learn new techniques to work with their own students or just need a fresh look at what they already do. 4-8 people can have their customised workshop throughout the year. If you have an idea , just ask .

Next year we will also have a range of visiting tutors who are skilled in their specific field

We are presently working out dates and times for a range of wool skills – wheel spinning – drop spindle spinning – tapestry weaving ( to name but a few ) if you are interested just drop us an email and we can give you direct information or come back and visit the site again soon .

Workshop times are generally 10am – 4pm but can be tailored to the train timetable

Cost for all one day workshops with Liz as your tutor is £70 – this includes a light basic lunch and refreshments.
