Glasgow City College Textile Course Workshop visit

With a lot of preparation from both tutors Fiona and Susan , a date was finally fitted into a hectic time schedule .

Today was the day and my prep of fabrics and dye material for this last week would be put to the test.

It was to be a taster of mark making both on paper and fabrics with a view to widening printing techniques that allowed the present interest in ecologically sound , sustainable methods of imprinting natural leaf patterns.

There was a lot of technical details for the students to absorb before their first testing on paper and a technical glitch with the new steamers I brought provided creative improvisation.

The fire alarm that evacuated the droves of students down 8 flights of steps was not the best timed and I was was concerned that the shortened steaming time might not give a good result but you can see by the pictures that wasn’t the case .

Superb results for imprinting

A lovely group of students who all participated with great gusto made the day a great success. Some great new ideas carried forward to the May and June Eco dyeing workshops here at Dalmally and at Strontian.

Hopefully the seeds have been set for future development of this technique by these eager art students
