What to do with Alpaca Fibre

This was a great experimental day for a local alpaca breeder.

Having the use of the large electric carder made short work of carding the alpaca fibre ready to be made into felted garments. Lots of ideas and trials worked into two very different toasty warm neck wraps.

The quality of the colours varied but overall the softness was luscious. Playing with the natural colours of the alpaca was also delightful and the contrast between the nuno wrap felted onto cotton muslin and the two layered fibre wrap were compared.

When farming your own animals for fibre the husbandry is only part of the process but healthy happy animals make better  growth possible and ultimately easier to felt .
